Oven Cleaning Croydon Health and Safety Policy
Oven Cleaning Croydon is committed to providing a clean, safe and healthy environment for our customers, employees and anyone affected by our oven cleaning services. This Health and Safety policy sets out our approach to managing risks, training our staff and maintaining safe working practices in homes and commercial premises.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent accidents, injuries and ill health arising from our work activities. We aim to achieve this by identifying hazards, assessing risks and putting effective control measures in place. We comply with all relevant health and safety legislation and keep our procedures under regular review to reflect best practice in the cleaning industry.
Management is responsible for ensuring that this policy is implemented and maintained, and every employee is required to follow the procedures set out in this document as a condition of their work with Oven Cleaning Croydon.
Responsibilities
The management team is responsible for:
• Establishing and reviewing health and safety procedures.
• Providing suitable equipment and approved cleaning products.
• Ensuring that staff receive appropriate training, information and supervision.
• Conducting regular risk assessments and safety checks.
• Investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions.
Employees are responsible for:
• Working safely and following all instructions and training.
• Using personal protective equipment correctly.
• Reporting hazards, near misses and incidents immediately.
• Taking reasonable care for their own safety and that of others.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Before starting any oven cleaning job, our operatives consider the specific risks of the environment they are working in. This includes assessing access and exit routes, electrical and gas connections, ventilation, and the condition of the appliance and surrounding areas.
Where significant risks are identified, controls are put in place, which may include isolating power supplies, restricting access to the work area, improving ventilation or adjusting the cleaning method. Work is only carried out when it is safe to do so.
Chemical Safety and COSHH
We use professional-grade cleaning products designed for oven and appliance cleaning. All chemicals are selected to balance cleaning performance with safety for users, customers and surfaces.
We comply with the principles of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. This includes:
• Keeping up-to-date safety data sheets for all cleaning products.
• Ensuring all containers are clearly labelled and stored safely.
• Using the minimum quantity of product needed for effective cleaning.
• Providing and enforcing the use of appropriate gloves, eye protection and other protective equipment where required.
• Ensuring good ventilation during and after the use of cleaning products.
Chemicals are never decanted into unlabelled containers, drinks bottles or food containers. All residues are disposed of in accordance with product guidelines and local waste requirements.
Personal Protective Equipment
Oven Cleaning Croydon provides suitable personal protective equipment to employees and requires its proper use at all times when there is a risk of exposure to cleaning agents, heat, sharp edges or other hazards. This may include protective gloves, aprons, eye protection, masks or other items as appropriate.
Staff are trained in the correct use, limitations and maintenance of their protective equipment, and any damaged or defective items are replaced promptly.
Protection of Customers, Children and Pets
When working in occupied properties, the safety and comfort of customers is a priority. Our operatives keep work areas tidy, minimise trip hazards and ensure that tools and chemicals are never left unattended where children or pets may access them.
We may ask customers to keep children and pets away from the immediate work area while cleaning is in progress, particularly when doors are open, power tools are in use or cleaning chemicals are being applied or rinsed.
Safe Handling of Appliances and Equipment
Oven doors, racks, panels and other components are removed and replaced using safe manual handling techniques to avoid injury and prevent damage to the appliance or surrounding kitchen. Heavy items are lifted only when it is safe to do so and may be cleaned in components to reduce handling strain.
Any mechanical or electrical equipment used in the cleaning process is maintained in safe working order. Operatives visually check equipment before use and must not use damaged or defective items.
Electrical and Gas Safety
Where required, power supplies are isolated in accordance with safe procedures before cleaning commences. Our operatives do not carry out gas or electrical repairs or modifications. If they identify a defect or potential safety issue with an appliance, they will discontinue work if necessary and advise the customer to seek a qualified engineer.
Training, Information and Supervision
All staff receive induction training that includes health and safety responsibilities, safe use of chemicals, manual handling, equipment operation and emergency procedures. Training is refreshed periodically and whenever new products, tools or methods are introduced.
Supervisory checks may be carried out to ensure that procedures are being followed and that safety standards are maintained across all areas where we operate.
Housekeeping and Environmental Considerations
Work areas are kept as clean and organised as possible during each job. Water spillages are wiped up promptly, and all tools, racks and trays are collected and removed at the end of the job. Waste materials such as used cloths, pads or disposable liners are managed in a safe and responsible manner.
We seek to reduce environmental impact by using water efficiently, avoiding unnecessary use of chemicals and following local requirements for the disposal of waste associated with cleaning activities.
Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses and significant incidents must be reported to management without delay. These events are recorded, investigated and reviewed to identify causes and prevent recurrence.
Operatives are trained in basic emergency responses, including what to do in the event of chemical splashes, slips and trips, fires or sudden illness. Where first aid is required, or emergency services need to be contacted, the safety of all persons present takes priority over the completion of any cleaning task.
Monitoring, Review and Policy Updates
Oven Cleaning Croydon is committed to continual improvement in health and safety performance. This policy and associated procedures are reviewed at regular intervals, and also following any significant change in our operations or relevant legislation.
Any changes to working methods, cleaning products or equipment are assessed for safety before being introduced, and employees are informed and trained accordingly. By working together and following this policy, we aim to provide a safe, professional and reliable oven cleaning service for all our customers.
